Hiya,

I am sanding a floor of a 120 year old house. The middle of the floor (where the carpet used to be) is fine, but round the outside of the room, there is a black tar like substance on the floor that just clogs/sticks to the sander and ruins the sanding paper.

Is there any advice on how to get rid of this substance??

Thanks

Robert

Ya, that is cutback adhesive. It contains asbestos! Sanding it makes dust, which you are breathing. The dust is what kills you eventually.

HI, I just took up some old laminate tiles that had tar paper and ran into the same problem when sanding. I had to use mineral spirits and scrapper to get it up.

Good luck!
