Two days ago, we painted our plaster walls (the house is 80 yrs old) with Ralph Lauren tinted primer and Behr eggshell latex paint, both tinted red. (The Home Depot folks told us to use this combination.) The paint still looks like it's not quite dry. We can scratch it off (and the primer comes with), and it was nearly impossible to take the tape off of the trim without big hunks of paint peeling off. I am currently running a fan and a dehumidifier (it's been raining lately) to try and get it to stick, but no luck yet.
I've just seen all of the posts about avoiding Behr paint, but what do I do now that it's on the wall? Will it eventually stick with the help of the dehumidifier, or should I cut my losses and start over? If I should start over, is it best to try to peel this off, or will another coat of a better quality paint fix the problem? Most importantly, what can I do to prevent this problem next time? I'm planning on using Rodda from a local paint shop in the future...

It would help to know the condition of the walls before the primer/paint was applied. Were they previosly painted, and with what, oil or latex, flat or gloss? Were they wallpapered at one time before this? What prep was done to the wall before applying the primer? A little more info will help alot.

We removed 4 layers of wallpaper from the wall, but it had not been previously painted directly. Before painting, we steamed off the wallpaper and washed the walls with water. We also repaired some of the plaster, but the paint is peeling off of everything (old and new plaster).

If the walls were dusty, it could impede adhesion. There are several different reasons why it didn't stick. It could be a number of things.
I would suggest have a rep from Home Depot come out and find out why the products they recommended failed. Maybe you can get them to pay to fix it.
