Solid Hardwood, Engineered and Laminate Flooring - Foam underlayment or not?

We are installing "Bronotex" Basic click laminate flooring on top of a 3/4"T&G subfloor. (1st. floor). We will be adding 6 mil plastic. But do we need to buy the "foam underlayment"? Or can we just install the flooring on top of the 6 mil plastic sheeting?

Use underlayment.

I have the same question. My husband is convinced there is no difference whether you use foam underlayment or not.

If you need to use foam underlayment, why? What value does it provide?

the laminate flooring expands and contracts every year ( like real wood, but not as much ) thats why you leave an expantion gap. the under dosent help the laminate wear any longer, but they ( depending on the quality used ) can help with imperfections in your existing flooring, and helps with noise and warmth. use an underlay

not to mention, if you don't use the recommended underlayment, you might not have any warranty!

our flooring manufacturer made 2 underlayments to go under ours - a 'good' one and a 'deluxe' version. we went with the basic cheaper one. it really does give the flooring a nice feel. it's not spongy by any means, but it's not as rock hard feeling as it would be without it (or like tile feels). it doesn't add that much cost to the project. don't mess with your 6 mil plastic PLUS the underlay. just go with whatever the instructions specify - it's a plastic and foam in one - and be done with it.

The foam makes up that last 1/8" in the subfloor prep specs for flatness.
1/8" in 6'.

It also voids the laminate warranty, if you don't use it.
