hello all, I am new here, I just bought a new house and I have laminate floors in my foyer, after living here a week, I was using mop and glo and other cleaning supplies on floor and then had someone tell me your not suppose to use anything on these type of floors, now floor looks terrible, how can I correct this???? Water doesnt seem to make it look good, it looks like i mop it with dirty water, does this mean I have bad water??? I am about to install more laminate in my basement office too, hopefully its okay to install laminate when you have heated floors????? I have the type that looks like woood flooring and hope to add it in many rooms soon....Thanks for your help, Mnrealtormom :)

Always best to check with manufacturer, but usually a terry cloth mop and lam floor cleaner is all you need to use.

Using improper cleaning chemicals on laminate damages the finish.

It etches the finish. they will look dull and dirty.

Try cleaning with non-acitone finger nail polish remover. Just one wipe in one direction. This may strip the cleaners without further damaging the surface.

When you clean, don't wipe back and forth! All that does is smear the dirt all over.
Wipe in one direction flipping the towel or damp sponge over each wipe. Rinse and wipe again in one direction.

I would not put laminate, in a below grrade installation, such as a basement!!!!
Better read the laminate specs on below grade installations, before you buy it!
