The house I own has a metal garage door and the paint is coming off. I have to take off as much of the flaking paint off the door, then prime it and paint it right? Forgot to mentioned, the garage has a glossy look.
Could I use "Tremclad" primer to prime? Also would I have to buy special paint since I'm painting metal?

Get as much of the flaking paint off as you can, then wash it down with TSP. I am not familiar with tremclad/ but if it is a primer suggested for metal it should be fine. I am familiar with SW products so for these doors I use Metalastic DTM(direct to metal) primer . For the topcoat if you are looking for a high gloss durable product I like SW All surface alkyld enamel. It works great on this type of garage door. I think it compliments a metal door better than latex ,but if you choose any good latex semi-gloss would be fine.
