Hi all:
I want to re-paint some exterior wood doors. It looks like they were done with an enamel paint. (What the heck makes a paint enamel anyway?... oil? latex? either? neither?).
Anyway, my main question is what should I do to prepare surface... sand to bare wood?, or cover enamel with oil primer, shellac primer or latex primer?
I was thinking of painting using Glidden Evermore Exterior 100% Acrylic Latex Semi-Gloss. Or is that too, a no-no?
Thanks for any replies,
Mike

Technically, an enamel is a colored varnish, or high-gloss paint. Generally, the term is used for high quality, dirt-resistant paints (generally for interior use) that may have a sheen level from satin to glossy. These coatings are used for more demanding applications as in kitchens, bathrooms, etc
what should I do to prepare surface
Scuff sand it with 120 grit paper, prime with an exterior alky/oil primer.
I was thinking of painting using Glidden Evermore Exterior 100% Acrylic Latex Semi-Gloss.
That would be fine.
