I have a question for floor dealers or installers. I am considering a PG Model walnut hardwood for my kitchen (and eventually the rest of my house when money permits). I had never heard of this brand before, can anyone tell me if it is reputable or if they have had any experience with it? I am in Canada, will the walnut withstand our dry summers and cold winters? thanks for any help.

Wood floors expand and contract as temperature and humidity conditions fluctuate inside the home. Running HVAC year round to maintain temperature and humidity is important. Placing the wood in the rooms where it is going to be installed for a few days to allow it to adjust to the temperature and humidity in your home is also important. Humidity should stay within 35-55%. A humidistat measures humidity. These tend to be found where they sell thermometers. (Note: temperature and humidity can be different in different rooms.) If humidity is below 35%, then you need to humidify. If it is above 55%, then you need to dehumidify. If installing over a crawl space, it should be dry, well-ventilated, with no dead air spaces. Polypropylene ground cover over soil is recommended. If installing over a basement, basement should be dry. Installing 15# builder's felt overlapped 4 inches over subfloor as an additional vapor retarder is required.
