Hi,
I'm Paul from the Netherlands and I want to have a fire place build from a certain type of old stones / bricks I have. They are called "ijsselstenen" in Dutch, but I don't know the english name for them :) . They are in fact quite soft like sandstone. I bought them at a place that sells antique construction material and they were used in the 19th century a lot for building fire places. In fact in my last house I used the same bricks for the hearth floor and they were undamaged for 4 years or so.
I found http://www.rumford.com which contains a lot of useful info on building your own fire place.
Does anybody know of the type of stones I mentioned ? Can they be used (with cast iron protection plate on the rear side of the fire place) ?
Any info or other links to technical info on building fire places would be welcome. Especially drawings with dimensions.
Thanks,
Paul
