I have a new Pella sliding door that opens from our kitchen eating area out to our deck. Facing the door from the inside, the sliding section is on the right, which slides to the left. The exterior of the door is white steel cladding and the interior is unfinished wood, which I wish to stain.

An interesting problem has come up concerning this. It appears that a prortion of the left vertical edge of the sliding section of the door is inaccessible for staining. It's fully visible, but unreachable, when the door is open. When the door is closed, only about 1/2 of the width of this vertical piece can be reached as the rest is behind the stationary door section.

To see this, go to this link: http://www.pbase.com/gordy/pellaslider

Outside of completely removing the sliding section, which would be a major chore, does anyone have any suggestions on how I can accomplish this?

Thanks,
Gordy

Remove the sash -- the SLIDING portion of the door. Now, EVERYTHING should be accessible
