I'm thinking of trying to install a laminate floor over my existing vinyl. My problem is that the existing floor squeaks and I'd like to know if I can run screws thru the vinyl to tighten the subfloor to the joists. The sheet vinyl was glued directly to the subfloor and no underlayment was used. My main concerns are not being able to see were the subfloor seams are and would the fair amount of screw holes be a problem base for the new flooring?

Screw it!!!

Finding the joist is going to be the hard part. A stud finder or a 16 penny nail, helps that.
