Hi folks!:
Did a quick search and haven't been able to find the answer that I need, so here it goes.
The other half wants to put a Bruce ( Armstrong) wood laminate floor in a service bathroom that is only 20.7 sq ft. There is no shower in this room, just a toilet and sink and it is over a unheated crawlspace. The present flooring is 3/4 plywood that we haven't as yet covered.
When laying the floor, would it be easier to cut the flooring around the toilet and utilize mitered moulding, or should I just remove the toilet and put the laminate close to the honeyhole ( leaving 1/4 or 1/2 seperation from rim) and reinstall the toilet on the wood?
Do you think that I should use a underlayment? I know that it can be layed right over plywood, but wouldn't a underlayment be better? Also, can regular floor underlayment ( tar) paper be utilized under these floors?

Install under toilet, use tar paper, probably no need to add underlay.

Thanks for your reply. I figured under the toilet was the best but just wanted to make sure. One other question has popped into my mind . Is it better to use a floating floor or glue the boards for this type of installation.
Thanks again for the info.

float it and glue the tounge and groove.

Thanks for the info. Thats the way I will do it. Have you had any experience ( retorical question I guess :) ) with Bruce (Armstrong) floating floors? Looked at Swiftkock and prego but laminate seems pretty thin. Besides the square footage makes me buy a extra package for the less than 1 foot needed.

Over the unheated crawl space you need to use a moisture barrier.

6-mil poly is suggested. You would be surprised what an un controlled crawlspace can do for moisture gain in the subfloor, that will transfer to your laminate.

Thanks for the reply. Went and ordered the Bruce floating floor today. It seems of the more sturdier construction and coverage. Will tar paper be better or the 6 mil as per your suggestion?
BTW , has anyone had any experience with the other brands at HD Expo? They had DBM , Hart and a few other brands there. Looking for the next floor upstairs! LOL!! Haven't even done downstairs yet!

You will find & have better flooring if you buy on-line!

I tend to stay away from the exclusive, budget hard surface flooring sold at the big boxes.
