I recently purchased a house with horrific looking carpet in the kitchen. I pulled up a corner and saw some thick yellow/brown carpet glue and attacked a test area with mineral spirits, and it came up with some elbow grease. The wood floor underneath has a nice reddish brown look and I decided to go for it and remove all of the carpet. Well, the test patch I tackled had far less glue than the rest of the floor and I know I am in for a job now. I purchased some Adhesive remover from Home Depot and after it sits for about 15 mins, the glue comes right off. There are a few white patches on the floor, that seem to disappear when I apply mineral spirits on a damp rag.How far do I need to go when I get all of this glue off? Can I lightly sand and stain again with a guess color to match, or can I sand lightly and coat with a polyurethane?

Unfortunately, You Should Really Find Out If It Was An Oil Based Adhesive, Or A Water Based Adhesive To Find Out The Proper Way Of Removing The Adhesive. If You Leave Mineral Spirits On A Wood Floor To Long, It Can Take The Finish Off The Wood Surface. I Think You Are Best Too Rent A Sander And Stain The Floor. Lots Of Fun. Use A Dust Mask, And Vacuum the Floor Well Before Appling The Stain.
