I want to build a free standing, redwood patio cover. I will use 6X6 posts and 2X12 beams. I want to have a 16 foot span with the 2X12 beams. Is this OK? What is the maximum span recommended for 2X12 beams? Is there a web site that gives this information?
Thanks,
Thanks,

Zip,
First, welcome to DoItYourself.com and the Deck forum.
It all depends on where you are at! If you are in a So. CA desert that hasn't seen a snow storm since the dinosaurs were there, that's one thing. But if you happen to be 150' from the north entrance of Lassen Nat'l. Park, where you have to meet a 100# snow load, the answer IS different!!
Start at your local bldg. dept. and find out what (if any) snow and wind loads you have to meet.
