Here's a good one. I am replacing an exterior doorknob. The house was built around 1969, and I think this is the original knob.

The problem is that I can't remove it. There are no visible screws. But there is a single hole on the plate cover (I don't know the real name). I have rotated the cover around and looked with a flashlight but haven't seen anything inside it. I figure there must be a pin or something in there but I cannot find it. A local hardware store suggested looking at about the 10 o'clock position for a pin but I haven't seen anything.

What am I looking for? How do I remove this doorknob?

Any name on the latch that you can see? Some Sargent locks require you to turn the plate which is threaded, away from the door to access a spring retainer on the lock body to remove the interior knob and then the lock.
