I have a small 100 gallon pond. Someone told me ph in a pond should be between 6.8 & 7.4, so i decided to check mine with my pool chemical testing kit. It was so high it was off the chart. How can i lower this or should i even worry about it.
Thanks

What is "off the chart"??

a pH of 6.5 to 8.5 is in the ideal range. Mine is closer to 9 and my comets and golden orfes are quite happy.

Your PH sounds about normal, at least from the couple of test kits I have. There are products you can buy that will raise or lower it, I imagine by either adding acid or adding anti-acid to adjust. Yours sounds good though.

I ahve had various debates from various "pond people" as to whether PH plays a factor. All I know is, I had a devil of a time last year with string algae which I never had for the 4 years we have had the pond.

I am not an expert, so I can only say that form what I do know, your PH range sounds almsot ideal

A stable pH is more important than a specific range. Mine also approaches the 9 range due to my hard water. Yes there is an ideal range but it is best to leave it be if you have no other issues since rapid fluctuations caused by chemical alterations cause more stress than a high pH the fish are used to.
