We have recently received a new Italian made desk from a supplier in San Francisco. The desk was well packaged for physical damage, but the large bubble wrap used to protect it was placed directly in contact with the finished wood. As a result at the contact points, evidently the plasticizer leached out of the plastic and left one inch diameter variations in the finish that are very noticeable. Polishing with a mild furniture polish has no effect. The supplier is so far reacting slowly. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of effect? The desk is inlaid wood of very high quality--not cheap by any means--and I'd like to have some ideas for the vendor. We've contacted a local wood refinisher with an excellent reputation who does refinishing work for moving companies and he has no real sugestions. Help is needed, this is a gorgeous piece and we don't want to send this one back!!

Thanks for any ideas.

I would have the vendor take care of this unfortunate situation. Furniture of this quality should not arrive needing to be refinished.
