I am planning to install a patio made from pavers (a simple rectangle - 16' X 11'). I am also going to have to install a retaining wall (seperate from the patio--no higher than 2 feet or so). Can anyone suggest some good resources to refer to for these projects? I've never done anything like these projects before and am looking for advice (other than hiring a contractor--I'm not made of money!!).

Any tips or experiences would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Killer, I bought the Home Depot book, exterior improvement 1-2-3. It is a pretty good book with some good information. I built my block retaining wall based on the info in there, and it came out awesome if I do say so myself!

Killer V,

The book (or any of the hundreds, or thousands like it!) that Chip mentioned will give you some good ideas and pointers.

For the retaining wall, you could always use the Keystone blocks (a Basalite product). They are fast, easy, permanent, and, at about $1.50 a piece, they won't break the bank. And they just interlock -- no concrete, mortar, rebar, etc. to buy.

For the pavers, there are LOTS of styles to choose from. Pick the one you like the best because you're going to be looking at it a long time!!
