Hi! I've recently found termite damage in the sill plate of the foundation. The damage is in the first quater of the wood. Can I replace the damaged part or do I need to replace the whole sill plate. There is no damage where the main support beam is being held. Thanks to the previous homeowner who covered it up two years previous!!! Thanks for the advice

Someone else will have to advise you on whether to replace some or all of the sill plate. I had all of mine replaced, but it sounds like I had more damage than you. I just have 2 suggestions: take a good look around when the sill plate is out to see what else might be hidden. (I had doubled band boards and the interior one was eaten up.) Also, my contractor took pictures of everything before, during and after so I could have a permanent record in case there are any questions when I sell the house. Good luck!

I wouldn't waste my time try to PATCH the problem -- replace the entire sill plate in the areas where it's damaged. And keep cutting in 2' increments until you have 100% good wood, then cut another 6". And I would drill a few 1/4" inspection holes in the bottom edge of the rim joist as you are working along as well, just to make sure the varmits haven't gotten into that as well.
