I have white paint and pine tree sap on pink brick. I've read the other recent posts and the article...

...which said not to use muratic acid, and "Use plain water, detergents, suitable proprietary compounds, or emulsifying agents."
Two questions:
What exactly are these things (detergents, proprietary compounds and emulsifying agents?
and...
Will they work to remove paint and sap?
Or will the bleach and Tide with water work?
thanks,
mike
