I have a U-shaped concrete block wall that supports my front porch, off the front of my house. I want to decrease the width of my porch by about 1 foot (or 1 block width, read on...) on each side. It has to do with the size of the new porch roof I'm building & how it interacts with existing windows.

So, I'm thinking that I can basically take out the side walls & take one "staggered column" of block of each end of the front wall (hope that makes sense... it's hard to describe without a picture). Then, I can build the new walls and key them in on each side.

Does that make sense? If so, is there any reason why that wouldn't work? I forgot to mention that the entire existing wall is built on a concrete slab... it's actually a little room, and it's almost entirely underground... well below the frost line--so I sort of already have the footer.

I look forward to your responses. Thanks...

Brian

It seems to me that it would work fine.
