I have just finished staining a birch dresser and have applied one coat of polyurethane clear satin. I'm not sure I like the finish and I wish, now, that I had thought to use tung oil instead. Would it still be possible to use the tung oil over the one coat of polyurethane or would that not work well? I have no idea if they are compatible or if the polyurethane would prevent the tung oil from adhering or drying properly. What would you suggest? Many thanks for any suggestions.

There would be nothing for the tung oil to form a bond with. Continue with the polyurethane or strip it off and use tung oil after the stain.
