 Hi, I like to build things and most of the time feel comfortable with the projects I take on til now. I have a 4'x7' concrete slab on top of brick..which needs to be replaced.......My questions are...When I tear all the slab and the brick out will I have a foundation to build on? How do I rebuild the foundation if it's no good? And after I brick the side and the front how long do I wait to pour the slab? I was told I can use the broken concrete from the old porch for a filler before I pour the slab......

Whether or not there is something inside the brick and under the slab depends upon how it was built originally. It the walls were built and filled and compacted for the slab, that is what you will find. My side and front porches were brick walls where a form was used to pour the slab so that nothing is beneath the slab after the forms were removed.

If there will be no shear load on the walls, 48 hours would be soon enough to pour the slab. If you will fill the walled area to support the slab, then I would give it 7 days to cure before filling and compacting.

Hope this helps.
