I live in the state of Iowa, and I want to build an 8' x 12' shed in my backyard and was wondering - how thick would the concrete slab need to be? Would 4" suffice or do I need to go w/ 6"...And approximately how much can I expect to pay to have a contractor pour a slab of this size and get it ready for framing?

Thank you,

Around the edges I would dig a 10” x 10” footer and the thickness of a 4” slab should suffice. Poor the footer and slab together. I don’t know what the prices are in your area but you will need about 2 yards of concrete. You will also want 5/8 lag bolts 4’ O.C. to bolt your bottom plate to. Hope this helps and good luck :D
