I am getting ready to install a heavy duty basketball unit and the instructions call for a 2 foot diameter hole by 3 foot deep. The 4" post will be bolted to 2 foot long j-bolts that are set in the concrete.

My question is, will the 3 foot depth be deep enough, I think the frost level here in southeast Michigan is 42", should I go at least this deep?

Also, it will take about 15 bags of 80 lb. concrete, will I be able to handle this with a wheel barrow (mixing 1 or 2 bags at a time) or would this take to long.

I would go down below the frost line to keep it from heaving out of the ground.

Even though this is 1/3 of a yard, it would be exhausting to mix 15 bags of mix. I would call the redi-mix folks and see if you can grab the backside of another delivery nearby.

Hope this helps.
