Hi guys,

I've got the same issue with 2 of my older Sony TV's. When I turn the TV on the picture comes in fuzzy for 5 secs and clear for 1 sec, then fuzzy for 5 and clear for 1. This keep going on for about 5 minutes and then the pictures comes in clear. It seems to me that the tuner is the problem and once it warms up the picture is good. I can use the video input with a VCR as a tuner and it works great. So I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem with Sony's and if they know how to fix it.

Thanks,

Paul

Yes, I've had the same problem with my Sony TV. Also I employed the same VCR solution to the problem. There was a service bulletin out on my particular model Sony saying that there were serveral problems with the tuners. As I recall, the varicaps can go bad, and the ground planes crack and effectively lift some bypass caps off ground. The stated solution in the service bulletin was to go in a resolder all the connections in the tuner. I actually tried that on my TV ( I used to be in the electronics repair business) but I didn't have much luck solving my particular problem. You could also just replace the tuner assuming that one is available for your set. My Sony was already 10 years old and I decided to just leave the VCR in line and run the TV from the video out on the VCR. Since I have cable my remote still works fine.

I managed to get one of the TV fixed. I removed the AGC module and resoldered most of the connections and reinstalled it and now the TV is working fine. I'm going to try the same thing on my other SONY. Hopefully that'll again! :D :D
