Good Morning:

For aesthetic reasons only, I'm planning to have the aluminum trim and gutters replaced on my 7 year old house. Instead of shutters, my windows have a wide band of trim all around the window in the style of a New England saltbox colonial. (I hope that makes sense - I don't know the proper terms) Should this trim be removed and replaced or can new trim be inserted over the old? Same question for the trim between the roofline and body of the house (facia?). Lastly, can someone give me an idea of the cost per foot of basic gutters vs. gutters with leaf guards. I live in the woods, so gutter maintenance is an issue for me.

I don't want to look like a helpless female when these contractors show up to quote the job, so any information is greatly appreciated.

Sorry this takes so long, but I work long shifts.

Wrapping over the old trim should be cheaper and just as effective, since you are likely looking to refresh it in the same manner as painting it. Depending upon your needs, painting it may be more resonably priced.

Seamless gutters are about $2 a foot installed down here. Leaf guards come in many flavors, so it is hard to estimate. Gutter Guard gutters are $20 or more a foot.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the range on gutters - at least I'll have an idea if someone is snowing me! And I didn't know painting the "maintenance-free" trim was even an option. I've painted every other surface in this house, so I can probably tackle that. :D
