Hello Michael Van!

Good or Bad kinda depends on application and your expectations. Homelite is fine for occasional homeowner use. They are less expensive. They are not commercial machines, or top of the line products. You buy one, use it until it breaks, toss it and buy another. Echo is more expensive, but generally considered a near-top of the line product. You should be able to expect much longer life and less trouble out of the echo, although nothing is guaranteed. I've seen homelites last much longer than expected too, so you never know.

My homelite is 7 years old and doing just fine. I've never had a problem with it, just regular maintenance.
