I have a Murray self propelled walk behind mower with a 5 horse power Tecumseh engine. I am trying to get the belt cover off the mower. I was able to get the blade off but in order to remove the cover I need to remove the colar that the blade bolts into. Can anyone tell me how this colar comes off, it appears to be frozen on the shaft. Thanks for any help. Compaqguy

The Model #21743x128. As far as a serial number the only other number I could find was a label on the mower deck stating it's a 21 inch murray #8008. Thanks again for your help. compaqguy

The piece that describing is the blade adaptor,It just slides on ,or slides off of crankshaft of any engine. All you need to take it off is a gear puller,and/or a good ball pine hammer and maybe some w/d 40,P.B. plaster or some other knd of rust removing lube.

There are two covers to remove to give you good access to the belt. The first is under the mower in the blade area. This one is a flat, oddly shaped plate held in by either three or four small screws. Use a brush of some sort to clean away the grass debris from the crankshaft rearward, exposing the screws. The second cover is under the rear flap. Lift this black, spring loaded flap up and there will be a red plate on the left side held in place by 3 or 4 screws. The bottom screws on this plate also hold the debris flap in place (partially). The OEM belt part number is 037X64, check with a Murray dealer for this belt.
