We're doing the finish work on a bathroom remodeling project. The contractor laid 1/4" cementboard (fiberboard?) on the floor. The gaps between sheets are pretty tight--1/8" or less. Do we need to tape with fiber-mesh and thinset as a separate step before thinsetting and laying tile?

He lay the cementboard over thinset, and secured it every 4 inches or less--at the edges of the sheets--if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance!
