I have a ready sanded pine kitchen table but am wondering about a finish for the top. I will probably just wax the rest of the table, but want a hard wearing surface for the top. How dow I achieve a victorian 'scrubbed' look for the top surface which I can just wipe clean daily with a damp cloth?

Polyurethane and tung oil are two good finishes for tables. Polyurethane is quite popular. Waxing unfinished wood looks nice but does little to protect if from damage, water, grime, and dirt. It would be better to finish the entire table with a polyurethane. I am not familiar with the 'scrubbed victorian look' but you will find a polyurethane finish easy to maintain.
