My entry is large and opens up into a second level. This paper has faded in places and I hate the look. What can I do to cover it? I have been told that this paper is hung with some sort of clay paste and if I try to take it off, I will have to re-rock. That is out of the question and my budget. Could I use Kilz and paint over that? Is there a faux finish that works well on string cloth?

I don't understand why you would have to sheetrock after removal. String paper is one of the easiest to remove because it holds water, and clay paste can be washed off. It'll will be quite a mess, but it can be done.
