Hi:
I am renovating a house that was built circa 1915.
The house has a southern exposure where the wooden siding has been damaged to the point where I am going to replace it all.
Hardiplank is not an option. This house is in an historic district.
The siding is beveled with a dimension of 5 5/8" x 9/16" (thick side).
I can find beveled replacement siding that is 6" x 1/2."
I have been quoted a price of:
$ .60 LF for yellow pine.
$ .74 LF for mahogony.
$ .94 LF for cypress. (cut to exact specifications)
The siding will have a two coat, front and back oil based primer applied before installation. Tyvek or an equivilant house wrap will be installed before the siding is replaced.
I am seeking any input on which wood would be most suitable.
The cypress has a long lead time, so I am leaning toward the yellow pine or the mahogony. The scale is small enough so the price difference is less than $500 for the job.

Will the difference in measurement matter? Can you see this side of the house at the same time that you can see another with the older narrower siding so that the difference can be told?
If the actual measurement don't matter, the mahogany seems to be a better choice.
