Hey guys, this is my first posting on the DIY forums. I have bought an 80 year old wooden sided home. The home is in very good shape except that over the years no one ever sanded or scraped peeling paint. They just painted over it. I know that there has to be lead based paint on this house. What are my options short of vinyl siding or hiring a painting contractor to safely remove the paint? Are there textured exterior paints? Someone mentioned a process called icing. I know I can buy textures and add to the paint.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for being here for guys like me. peace, Bud

The best way to remove the paint would be chemical or burning. Burning would be my choice over chemical because it could esily damage the wood siding. I have never heard of 'icing' or seen anyone put texture in an exterior paint.

I honestly would advise hiring a professional, because lead abatement is no joke. I don't touch those jobs myself. Too dangerous, and too much liability.
