Which finish would be better in a bathroom, Satin or Semi-Gloss??

Or does it even matter? I don't want alot of shine on the walls, but I want the paint to hold up to the humidity in a bathroom, and/or occasional water drops that get on the wall.

One thing is certain, this builder's flat has got to go!

Thanks in advance for the input.

Hello, after seven Children, I have painted lots of Bath rooms. lol My best results has been with using an oil base paint. Most people like the easy clean up of water base paints but they don't seem to last as well as oil base.

I like semi gloss and I start painting over the show area just so I can go back and give it a second coat no matter how well the first coat looks. That area seems to take more punishment from the steam.

I don't clean up, I throw away the roller, plastic paint tray and brush. I use those $1.29 3 inch brushes for the corners. I wet a paper towel with paint thiner and cover the roller and tray for a few hours until I can put on the second coat.

Hope this was some help,
Earl

Yep, what he said sounds good. Nowadays, the latex paints perform pretty well too, especially since the VOC laws have changed the formulas for all the oils. In any case, either should work fine, just assume at least 2 coats over junk builders flat.

Latex works very well. Just get a quality brand from a paint store. I don't buy paint from a big box or discount house.
I prefer semi-gloss but many people do not like the sheen.
