hi! last summer we tiled our backsplash. this winter we decided to remodel our whole kitchen. we tore out all but the tile backsplash. the job is almost done, and we do have to add some more tile to the backsplash. we got a corian counter top and it doesn't look very good with the grout color. my question is, can we use a dremel tool and take out some of the old grout and when we add more tiles, just regrout the whole area? thanks for any advice.

What up? just can't get enough can ya?It is a very tedious job but can be done. You'll need to get all the grout off the edges of the tile especially if using a lighter color grout. You will have to go about an 1/8 inch deep to get the new grout to stick. It can be done but real pain to do have fun!

thanks for the reply. no, i can't seem to get enuf! yeah, i'm sure that's gonna be a pain, but i think it will be worth it. the grout isn't really that much different, but the current color has a slight bluish tint and we want to change to delorean grey. then we only lack doing the trim work. baseboards, top molding and CROWN MOLDING on the tops of cabinets. that's the scary part. we can't decide if we will tackle the crown or have it done. (not sure if my marriage can withstand that job!) i'll prolly talk to you again.

Unless you have experience with the crown mold upside down and backwards, cutting i mean ,then you may want to get someone to help you witht that part of the rehab, cause mistakes will be made and tempers will flare,so all things considered, naybe worth it for the peace of mind

It's about 1 million times easier to use a grout colorant instead of the dremel nightmare....plus it seals the joints while you color them. Aquamix works great and is as easy to apply . Plus, they'll get you any color you ask for.

that sounds interesting. can i get that at any lumber yard? and, if i am adding tiles, will i have to use my same grout and then color all of it afterward? or should i use the grey grout on the new ones, and will they match the ones i color?

You can get the colorant at any tile shop, but this will not give you as good an appearance as regrouting and is still as big a pain in the a$# as regrouting. The grout lines will look painted and not very good in my opinion:cool:
