I have a SxS Maytag that is cold in the freezer but running about 60 dg in the fridge part. Coils in the back of the freezer are frosted, so from reading here I believe my Defrost Timer is bad. Problem is, I am having trouble locating it. Any ideas on where the Defrost Timer is on a Maytag SxS (Model # MSD2556AE) (5-6 yrs old)

Hello: bobj_3
Timer should be located where the compressor is located. Might be worth a try search in the Maytag web site.
Search the manufacturers web site for a downloadable version of the owners or service manual. The file will be a pdf file opened with Adobe, which also needs to be downloaded first but worth having once obtained.
Retail appliance parts dealers can also help. Ask to see the part so you will know what it looks like. Ask them where it is located. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance part stores and dealers are listed in the phone book.

I have the exact same Maytag, with the same problem. How did you repair yours? Thanks, Dave

Hello,
If you look up the parts breakdown on that particular model Maytag, it does not show a defrost timer but a adaptive defrost control board in the control area, I believe. I have a Kenmore model with the adaptive defrost and it has a little tech sheet in where the control board is with instructions on how to put the fridge into the defrost mode if that is indeed your problem. I am not an expert.

I believe you'll find the adaptive defrost control board in the refrigerator section in the back right corner. It'll be tricky getting to it. The cover comes off first then you'll see some screws on the ceiling and one on the back wall that need to come out in order to drop down the compartment where you'll find the adc board. Unplug ref. before attempting this. Scott
