I have a old house so I ran into a couple of problems, first when I put up new durrock around the tub the new did'nt come out far enough to go past the back edge it sit's almost even with it because the paster was very thick, second I did'nt use thinset to cover the seams I just taped and used joint compound is that going to be a problem? And where the greenboard met the durrock I painted a little past onto the durrock will the adhesive still stick and work on a painted surface. I already started tiling the back wall so there's nothing I can do about the thinset but I need to know what I can do around the edge of the tub, it's a rounded edge about a half inch or so high on an old castiron tub. I either have to bring the tile down to the top and figure out how to fill the gap under it or try to float the tile out over top of it somehow but that will look like crap I'm sure. And I almost forgot what would I use to cut the holes out for the water spigot and handle.

Hello & welcome to the forums.

The cbu needs to be properly taped with the correct mesh & thinset, not joint compound.

You really need to get things flushed out with the cbu so the finished tile will sit flush with the rest of the wall or else you'll have to add some sort of edge trim there to tie it all together. Might also think about this for along the back of the tub.

I generally use a roto-zip with a masonry bit to cut the holes for the drains, for water lines I use a piece of sharpened galvanized pipe as a punch to make the holes.

Other thing, caulk the corners, don't use grout there. You can get caulk to match your grout from a decent tile store and at some home centers.

Good luck & keep us informed on your progress. ;)
