I got a Gibson fridge Model #GRT16CRHW6.Serial # LA105 19048
The problem is it wont stay running.I checked the windings to ground.they are ok.There is a black bakelite thing with 2 spade terminals plugged into the compressor winding terminals, but have no clue what it is.It appears to be a solid state something,I just dont know what. There is no continuity thru the thing. The fridge draws 15-17 amps for about 8-10 seconds then shuts down.any thoughts what to try next? I appreciate it. Thanks

Hi, Mark7
the thing your describing sounds like the klixon it is a coverload protector, the amp draw you have would be that of a locked rotor
You can try a hard start kit which will boost the starting torque of the compressor. here is a web site you can even refer to:
http://www.fridgedoctor.com/generic/art/a82a.html
hope this can help
