For the last couple months, each time we started the dryer, it would make a buzzing, possibly electrical sound in the back it would stop after the dryer started. At first it was a mild noise and in the end loud. Now the dryer won't start at all. Any ideas?

Hello: lmkeehn
Several possibilities. Depending on the type of noise and it's location. Upper or lower location. Not likely to be upper. More likely to be lower where the electric drive motor is.
Which means the noise could be or could have been since the machine presently isn't operational, the motor which burned out.
May have seemed like or sounded like an electrical noise but may have been the blower fan cage coming into contact with the fan housing case, fan spinning on the motor shaft, etc.
About the only possible solutions to discover what the problem most is, is to unplug or turn off the electrical power, remove rear access panel(s) and or open cabinet make a visual inspection.
If no visual evidence is noted, rotate blower fan to insure it is not loose on the shaft, comming into contact with the housing, etc. No physical evidence found, suspect the motor.
Motor may be burned out. In that case, any electric motor repair shop can test the motor, fix it or replace it, if needed.
Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance part stores and dealers are listed in the phone book.

It's always adviseable to clean the entire exhaust venting system every 2 years. Or during any dryer maintenance, connection and or repairs.
