I have a Maytag built-in dishwasher that is about 5 years old. I opened it to unload it and went to close the door, but it won't close. It feels like the right side of the door has shifted or fallen off some sort of track. Can you tell me how to check to see what is wrong? Thank you!

Hello: AngieL

Most likely the right side door hinge is broken, bent and or somehow damaged. Removal of the door is required to inspect for any and all potentially damged or broken parts.

If the machine has a lower kick panel, removing it should or may allow access. If not, entire machine has to be pulled out to expose the sides where the brackets and hinges are.

Be sure to turn off the electrical power or unplug the dryer first. Than insure the water and water dischrage lines are removed prior to attempting to pull the machine out.

Additional Help and Suggestions:
Read the manufacturers online web site for problem solving methods, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair procedures, pictorials, downloadable repair manuals, etc which may be available online.

Search the manufacturers web site for a downloadable version of the owners or service manual. The file will be a pdf file opened with Adobe, which also needs to be downloaded first but worth having once obtained.

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance part stores and dealers are listed in the phone book.
