I have a 4 year old Estate/Whirlpool washing machine, model # TAWS800JQ1, and it will not drain. Fills OK & agitates, but won't attempt to drain on Normal, Permanent Press or Gentle cycles. Switch on the lid is fine and there isn't any blockages in the pump or drain lines. The motor doesn't even switch on to try and pump the water out of the tub.
Could the problem be in the timer (FSP model # 3948852B)? It is sealed and does not look servicable. My previous Whirlpool went 27 years before getting stuck on certain cycles and it was definitely the timer, but this machine is fairly new.
What suggestions does anyone have?
If it could be the timer, how can I verify before spending the $$ on a new one? I have the simple wiring diagram supplied inside the machine, but the chart explaining the timer cycles is very confusing.
Thanks.

Hello: blue_steel
In order to test the timer, unplug the machine, use an ohm meter to test for continuity on the timer terminals when the timer is in the cycle to activate the pump.
Test needle on gauge should show continutiy. If not, timer defective. Replacement is required.
Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance part stores and dealers are listed in the phone book.
