I have paneling in my family room, and I want to put a plaster finish on it and paint it...what do I need to do in preparation, and what kind of plaster do I need?

Do you mean a 'venetian plaster'?

I'm not sure what a venetian plaster is. I saw this done on an HGTV program, but they just said they had put plaster on the paneling and painted it. They didn't say what kind.

They may have filled the seams with joint compund , ythen painted?
