I have a repossessed home that has been needing painting on the eaves and columns for at least a year and I was told that the wood is deteriorating. Obviously I will need to inspect and repair the damages and then paint it but how do I go about painting it from there? I guess what I need to know is if there would be any need to inspect it further than a visual inspection.

You need to be able to touch it too. If the wood is rotted, or spongy, or just plain unstable, it needs to be dtermined if it can be patched or needs to be replaced. A carpenter might be in line for this. And if the columns are load bearing, it might need to be inspected by a home inspector.

The window trim will all be replaced as they are splintering and were poorly constructed anyways. I'll try to post before and after pics after the work is done.
