I just bought an all in one TV for my sons room. I mounted it on a wall bracket and now want to install an outlet box up next to it to prevent him from having any chance of pulling it down. My question is does anyone make and were can I find a single electrical and coax connector for a single outlet box.

Thanks in advance.

Electrical and cable need to be kept separate. It is not likely you will find them on the same plate. You might need to install 2 separate plates. The electrical will need a box behind the plate. The cable does not require a box.

That's what I thought until I just recently saw some dual combo boxes at the local hardware store that have a low voltage section on one side and a slot for regular electricals. The two halves are physically separated by a plastic plate/wall.

The low voltage compartment has an open back and a cable strain relief ring, unlike the other 'high voltage' side has slits for romex.

Looks like the boxes are available both as new construction as well as old-work.

I've seen (and installed) dual-gangs with low-voltage and line voltage combined - so I can't see where a separated single-gang would be different. In fact, it would be better, since there is a physical separation, unlike a dual-gang box.

Mainly, you don't want parasitic voltages on your cable line. Stuff happens, and if it does happen and your signal gets screwy the cable company will make you undo anything they don't normally do to isolate any problems. You can try it. It isn't like the cable line isn't hanging right beneath the power line. I've been up on poles before where the power ground for the transformer is physically touching the tap. Not good! But no one reported problems (until the damn thing would have blown and all the TV's off that tap would have been ruined). It had to be fixed.

Also, your cable lines in your house are probably running right next to the power line.

I've seen plates (similar to the switch and outlet) where it is a single gang and one side of the recepticle is a cable line and the other is a power outlet.

Generally it is bad practice to put them both in the same box. You're asking for trouble, and I doubt your wanting to buy a new TV.

Have fun!
