Run a wire from the CRT connection to the ground strap around the CRT.

It's the CRT you need to discharge not the flyback. I don't like the idea of just a wire. That could create quite a spark. I used to use my high voltage tester and keep it on until the voltage went to zero.

The average person is not going to have a high voltage probe/meter in their kitchen drawer. A simple length of wire connected to ground then to the high voltage cap works fine. At work every day I use a clip lead connected to a flat blade screw driver.

i have managed to replace my flyback but the tv is still dead
i am afraid there could be more damage
i have also noticed a resistor next to the flyback which is blown
but i cannot read it but the circuit board reads R435 and i do not know where to get the exact size of the resistor
its an akai model= CKT2001
serial number= 93-21-06-024
