Walls and Ceilings - Drywall sealant.....paint......uuhhh

I just drywalled my garage - 1/2 was already done, so I did the rest.
None of it is painted - Menard's said to apply a drywall sealer coat to the walls. Can I mix in sand with the sealer? Or do I have to go back and apply a latex paint and then with sand?

You need to use a primer labeled for use over new construction drywall. There are a bunch of brands on the market, but a key thing is a fast drying primer, the longer it takes to dry or set, the more pronounced the seams will be. This is caused by the difference in absorbition rates between the uncoated face paper & the areas coated with mud (joint compound).

You could add the sand with the primer if you wanted, if you're just wanting a plain white room with a sanded texture. Hope that helps. ;)

I know about the primer. Sand won't work - any other suggestions?

If you want a sand finish you add sand in with the paint. What exactly are you trying to do?

I can't add in sand because I use a paint stick and it'll clog it. Any other options?

If you're wanting that sand finish, you're gonna have to bite the bullet & use an old fashioned manual paint roller.
