I am in the process of removing old P&L walls to run some new electrical lines and upgrade some old wiring.
When I removed the P&L, the old blown insulation was fairly intact. Loose in some areas and pretty compact in others. I could almost cut some out like 'cheese-cake' to bag it. - I've been throwing that loose fill up in the attic.
I was just wondering (again), if replacing that old blown insulation and P&L with R14 batt, VB and drywall is worth all this work? I presume there's no (or minimal) R value to P&L VS the batt, VB and drywall.
Plus the weight of that old stuff. For 2 walls- (not full walls either -1 has a fireplace the other, a large window), weighed in at 310kgs/682lbs. Yikes!
I presume the new R14,VB and drywall would not weigh as much....and provide more R value than the old system.
What do you think?

As long as you can use the old insulation up in the attic Id go for new in the walls. if you have x 2x4 wall you can only get R13 in it a 6 1/2" wall R 19. paper to the room side but Id still put up a V /B over it then the drywall ED;)

Thanks Ed. Up here, we have R14 for 2x4 walls - using Corning Pink. No paper.

Its 'presumed' that the latest system of R14, VB and drywall provides more R value...and less weight.

Its more like this. The batt you know the R of it. Its right there on the bag. Now when you have blown put in. Oh boy its who put it in. On the bags it will say so many sq ft per bag.Thats good. But the guy can open the air shutter on the blower and say Ill be good to you and put 8" in for the same money as the 6". And he will and it will look good only he can still take some of the bags back with him that you paid for to go into your home for the 6" blow. Not all are like this BUT A LOT are

Yea.. Good point. Not that I was having more blown put in, but this was done in 1982. So thats 22year old stuff in there anyway. Out with the old, in with the new!
