My washing machine fills with water and cycles through agitation mode but doesn't empty water or spin. Any suggestions on what part may be causing the problem?

What make and model washer is this?

if kenmore/ whirlpool check lid switch and pump

it turned out to be the lid switch which was very easy to repalce
