Hi,
I have a Maytag side by side model no. MSD2356AEA. About 4 months ago the refrigerator side stopped cooling. The freezer side was working OK. I followed the tips from this forum and found that the evaporator coil was frosted up. After I defrosted it, the refrigerator was working again.
Yesterday, the refrigerator only cooled down to about 50 degF. I checked the evaporator coil and it was frosted up again (not as much as the first time). This time I decided to call for service man. I told him what wrong with the fridge and how I made it to work for 4 months. He checked the heating element, defrost timer and said they're all good. After few minutes more of checking he said the computer control board (Adaptive Defrost) was bad. Part and labor is $135 and is on order. In the mean time, he told me to defrost to the evaporator coil until part arrived. The fridge is cooling again after the condensor was defrosted.
After reading this forum about the this problem, I have not heard of the computer control board being the cause of the refrigerator not cooling. Could this be the cause? Please advise! Thanks.

Hi,
In most cases if the evaporator is freezing up the unit is not self defrosting as it should, it could be a bad heater , defrost timer or terminating thermostat, possibly your model, the terminating stat is controled by the micro processor, I never seen one like that but I retired from the service feild 5 years ago. I do not have a schematic of your unit. ask your tech again about the terminating thermostat if it is (open) since he checked heater and timer.
