I am planning on purchasing a house. On inspecting the basement, I noticed that much of the batt insulation (especially near the top of the wall) has black stains in it. The staining is pretty uniform over the entire width of the wall. The vapor barrier covering the wall is open at the bottom. What are the chances that this is mold? Although the humidity in the house may be a little high, the insulation is dry and it does not smell mouldy. I suspect that it is simply dust trapped my air movement in the wall. Any comments?
Thanks

Most of the time black is mold. I think I would have it checked out for sure first. ED ;)
